You are fine, love. The world, not so much. | Daybreak #176 | Sept. 9, 2019
Good morning, dear!
I’m noticing a pattern to the flow of directives spun out by companies and their ads, the thousands upon thousands of messages we absorb in a day.
It goes something like this:
You need our amazing XYZ to be fulfilled! You need to wear ABC to feel stylish and pretty! You need DFG for your skin! You need to drink 0 and eat 1 and go on vacation in JKLMN!
And then this:
(Climate change destruction?) Silence. (Inhumane treatment of immigrants fleeing to America?) Silence. (Institutional racism?) Silence. (Millions in prison, disproportionately black men?) Silence. (Falling/low funding of schools, roads, mental health services?) Silence.
Companies have no incentive to talk about anything other than the product or service they want you to feel incomplete without.
So let’s flip this. Let’s do a tiny exercise to counter all the noise you’ll feel today.
You are lovely. You don’t need ABC or MNOP.
You are smart and thoughtful and kind.
You will be fine.
You are so much more than enough.
The world, though, is not entirely fine. And it needs you.
What should you do? What should I do?
I don’t exactly know yet. (Do you have ideas? Do tell!) But once we start noticing and caring, opportunities will start showing up.
Let’s be on the lookout for them.
With love,
Brianne
